It is with great joy we announce the birth of Joanna Cynthia Corduan, born September 13th, at 5:29am. She weighed 8lbs 1oz. and was 20 inches long. We praise the Lord that Momma and baby are doing well! This was another home birth assisted this time by Karen Baker, L.M. and her assistant Gretchen Walker. Actually Karen, who has delivered our last two children had just delivered another baby in a community about 30 miles south when Alfred called her at 3:30am to say that Cindy was in labor. Because the other Momma required stitches and other post-partum care she sent Gretchen right away and hurried to fulfill her responsibilities and get over our way. As it turned out Karen was lugging her gear upstairs as Joanna was born . . . Although this was her first “solo” birth Gretchen was outstanding in providing the needed support, both physical and emotional, assisted by Grandma Dottie Osborne and Ruth. Timothy (3) slept through the whole affair, his crib right beside all of the excitement.
Joanna joins siblings Nathan (18), Ruth (16), Elisabeth (15), Peter (12), Mary (11), Esther (9), Susanna (6), Timothy (3), and Rachel (1). She was evaluated by all 9 brothers and sisters who indicated that she was a “keeper”. All are delighted to see that she has definite red hair!
Joanna is a name meaning “Gift of the Lord”. Her name is mentioned in Luke 8:3 “And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance”, also in chapter 24, one of the women that saw the risen Savior and told His disciples. May Joanna early receive God’s Gift, His Son the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and throughout her life be known as God’s gift to others . . . to serve the Lord and and the Lord's people from her "substance". May she be one that sees Him when others don’t. Her middle name Cynthia comes first of all, of course, from her Mom, whom her Daddy loves very much. Cynthia means “moon” . . . a reflector of the of the sun’s light . . . may she reflect the Lord’s image and glory in a dark world that does not know Him.
We would covet the prayers and blessing of those that love her, to work to direct her steps always toward the Lord and to that which is right and good. May she and her life in turn become a specific blessing to each of you . . . and may we all be witnesses of the Lord’s faithfulness, mercy, and grace in and through her.
With much love,
Alfred, Cindy, Nathan, Ruth, Elisabeth, Peter, Mary, Esther, Susanna, Timothy, Rachel . . . and Joanna!
